The Montverde Academy Boys’ Varsity Soccer team, 129-0-7 since 2010, and ranked No. 1 nationally by TopDrawerSoccer.com and USA TODAY, defeated St. Paul’s School, from Covington, Louisiana, 5-0 to win the 5th annual MAST Championship! The Eagles had defeated Merritt Island (Merritt Island, Florida) 2-0 last Tuesday to advance their undefeated run to 133 matches. In Day-1 of MAST, MVA defeated Chandler High School (Chandler, Arizona) by the score of 5-0 to break a national boys’ high school soccer record: undefeated at 134 games without a loss!
On Day-2 of MAST, MVA was victorious over Cathedral High School, from Los Angeles, California, 3-2 in penalty kicks (PK’s) that set the stage for Saturday’s Championship victory, and secured a second straight perfect season and fourth straight SIMA FAB 50 Winter No. 1 ranking!
The 2016 MAST eight-team field was extremely competitive with SIMA FAB 50 No. 1 Montverde Academy, No. 2 Sam Houston (Arlington, Texas), No. 7 Gulliver Prep (Miami, Fla.), No. 9 Cathedral (Los Angeles, Calif.), No. 23 St. Paul’s (Covington, La.), No. 49 Melbourne (Melbourne, Fla.), Tampa Jesuit (Tampa, Fla.) and Chandler (Chandler, Ariz.).
