On Wednesday, October 7th at 6:00 p.m., Montverde Academy’s College Guidance Office will be hosting a workshop for our Florida day students and parents to promote Florida public and private universities and colleges. The evening will include a light meal and a presentation by Mrs. Holly Pohlig, Director of Admission at Rollins College , and Mrs. Elizabeth Costello, Director for Communications, Recruitment, and Marketing at the University of Central Florida. Although this college guidance event is designed for MVA Florida day parents, interested MVA boarding students are welcomed to attend – but they must request permission from their MVA Resident Hall Parent.
As a reminder, all seniors are required to apply to at least six colleges. To ensure that application packages are sent to colleges and universities in a timely fashion, November 6th, 2015, has been the day established by MVA College Guidance Office for all applications to be completed. MVA seniors interested in applying to the state schools in Florida should do so by November 1, 2015. Students are encouraged to bring any questions regarding their college application process to any of Montverde Academy’s “College Application Boot-camps” – and the next B-C is scheduled for Tuesday, October 21st. Seniors who are Florida residents and applying for the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program should visit the FBFSP website for important updates. *A number of changes have been made to this program so please take a moment and review the guidelines for this scholarship. Montverde Academy juniors, sophomores and freshmen will all be taking the PSAT (Preliminary SAT) on Wednesday, October 14, 2015. PSAT Study Guides have already been distributed to all students during their Advisory period – and additional guides are available at MVA’s College Guidance Office.
Saint Leo University will deliver admission decisions on-site on Tuesday, October 20, 2015, for MVA students interested in attending the small private school north of Tampa, Florida. Additionally, Karen Bisco, a High School Outreach Counselor with Monroe College will be on campus Tuesday, October 6, 2015, at 8:45 a.m. to deliver a presentation to students interested in searching for scholarships and grants for college. Please RSVP to Mrs. Taña Erdman, College Guidance Assistant, if you would like to attend this informative workshop. All students are welcomed to attend scheduled university/college visits (on campus and off-campus). Students don’t need to schedule a specific time-appointment to attend events – but they do need to request permission from their teacher to attend during that class period. All questions relating to college events, admissions, and testing should be directed to the Montverde Academy College Guidance personnel of Ms. Felicia Williams, Director of College Guidance, Mrs. Karla Lafferty, Assistant Director of College Guidance, or Mrs. Taña Erdman, College Guidance Assistant.
