The Montverde Academy Music Conservatory is off to a great 2nd year of existence! The mission of the conservatory is to “… broaden student’s understanding of the varied and wondrous offerings that are in the arts and to encourage young artists to create their own art, music, and theatre. It is through this creative process that we deepen their appreciation and build an emotional love of the arts that lasts a lifetime.”
A specific example of the arts encouraging one of our young artists can be found with Montverde Academy senior Alexander LaPlante who was recently selected to participate in a national mixed high-school chorus performing at the National Association for Music Education teacher’s conference, being held in Nashville, Tennessee, October 25th-28th.
In related news, the MVA Music Conservatory will hold auditions on Saturday, October 31st for:
- Voice
- Piano
- Violin
- Viola
- Cello
- Bass
Montverde Academy Fine Arts Chair, Mr. Aubrey Connelly (who also serves as the Director of the Conservatory) asks that students please audition in appropriate attire: smart business wear for both men and women. *Please let the Conservatory know if you need a piano accompanist, and bring well marked copies of your music to the audition. A 20-minute rehearsal with your accompanist prior to your audition will be scheduled as well. You may bring your own accompanist if you prefer. In other MAMC news, congratulations to Montverde Academy seniors Emily Chen, Alexander LaPlante, and Gilles Parks, MVA Music Conservatory students, for passing the Musicianship and Sight Singing portion of the Florida All-State Choral test held on Friday, September 25, 2015, at Seminole High School. The three seniors will now move on to the Vocal Quality test being held on Saturday, October 24th at Lake Mary High School.
According to Mr. Connelly-Candelario, who was a judge during the competition but unable to see the MVA performances, our three participating seniors were thrilled to hear of their passing the exam!
The final goal is to earn a seat in the All County Choir which is held in Tampa, Florida, in January 2016. Approximately 10,000 students audition every year and only 300 vocalists are chosen to attend All State.
