Earlier this month, the Montverde Academy Select Choir and members from the school’s Concert Choir competed in the Florida District 6 Choral MPA (Music Proficiency Assessment) held at the First Baptist Church of Deland, Florida. MVA earned straight superiors from the judges in performance and sight singing, a first for Montverde Academy! The choir is now eligible to attend and compete in the State Choral MPA in later next month. The positive results from the competition was indeed a good start to this month’s “Music in Our Schools Month” – a national celebration and recognition of music education in America.

In related news, the general public is invited to the 2016 Music Conservatory Senior Graduation Recital this Friday, April 1 at 7:00 p.m. inside the Sandra O. Stephens Fine Arts Auditorium. This year, we have eight seniors who will graduate from the Music Conservatory and this recital is one of their last requirements before earning the Conservatory diploma. Each student will perform solo pieces which represent their time in the Conservatory. Two students, Imani Doyle and Frances Zhang, will perform longer programs as they are also completing their requirements to earn the VPA SAC diploma in music performance. The evening’s performances will last about 90 minutes and there will be a short reception with refreshments directly afterwards in the lobby of the Sandra O. Stephens Fine Arts Auditorium.
