On Thursday afternoon of last week, Montverde Academy’s Middle-school faculty, staff, and parents recognized M.S. students conferred DUKE TIP (Duke University Talent Identification Program) certificates at a brief reception held inside the Martha Bedell Dining Hall. The DUKE TIP is an academic testing rubric “… dedicated to being a national leader in identifying academically talented students and providing innovative programs to support the development of their optimal educational potential.” Recipients were also awarded a free SAT prep-course compliments of MVA Headmaster Kasey C. Kesselring.
Yearly, DUKE TIP helps educators and families determine how advanced their students’ abilities are as it also assists in determining what level of educational challenge is most appropriate for each middle-school level student. Participants are selected by using testing data from the previous school year. According to Mrs. Kim Brauman, Middle-school Guidance Counselor, “… if a student has scored at or above the 95th percentile on an accepted subtest or battery… benefits include; an above level testing experience, Special Recognition, Educational Guidance, Specialized Publications, Educational Programs, and Independent Learning Opportunities.”
