Our very own Shayla Smart, a Montverde Academy sophomore, and member of the Lady Eagles Varsity Girls’ Soccer team, competed in the U-17 Caribbean Football Championship for Jamaica last week in Puerto Rico! After competing with the Montverde Eagles on Nov 18th in a hard fought 3-2 win against previous unbeaten Bishop Moore, Shayla Smart flew in for the semi-final and finals. In the semi-final match Jamaica beat Trinidad 1-0, with Shayla Smart starting and playing 70 minutes. In the final vs Haiti, Shayla Smart started and scored to win the Caribbean Football Championship 2-1. This event qualifies Jamaica for the Concacaf Women’s U17 Championship March 3-13th in Grenada. Ember Butterfield represented Bermuda in the same tournament and Raenah Campbell will represent Trinidad in the U-20 Concacaf Championship December 2-8th.
