Congratulations to Montverde Academy 8th grader Akash Tandon who has qualified to compete in the state level competition of the National Geographic Bee! The National Geographic Bee Team notified the Academy this week that The Florida State Bee will be held on Friday, April 1, 2016.  For information, please visit the State Bee Homepage,  then click on Florida. The Florida State Bee website states that “…eligible state Bee competitors must be in grades four through eight, and must have participated in and won the competition at the school level that involved at least six students.” The Florida State Bee rules also stipulate that one champion from each state and territory will advance to the national competition, which will be held May 22-25 at the National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington, D.C.

In December 2015, during a special afternoon Middle School Assembly before Montverde Academy’s Christmas break, Akash Tandon won the Montverde Academy Geography Bee.  10 students enrolled 4th through 8th grade (two contestants per grade level) competed in Montverde Academy’s annual Geography Bee – held inside the Sandra O. Stephens Fine Arts Auditorium.  Two “practice rounds” were conducted that were in turn followed by 12 “real rounds” of competition comprised of both written and oral questions (6 verbal, 6 written).  MVA Middle School Dean Warren Delmolino asked the questions and was assisted by Mrs. Kim Brauman, MVA Guidance Counselor, and Mr. Tom Narducci, Middle School History teacher, who served as a judges.
