Last month, Sarah Sarver, a sophomore enrolled in the Montverde Academy Music Conservatory, attended the annual Florida 4-H Leadership Adventure Weekend. This year, L.A.W was held at Camp Anderson, located in Old Town, Florida. Sarah has played a very active role in the 4-H Program at both the local and State level. 4-H is one of the University of Florida’s statewide programs, and annually they sponsor a leadership retreat for youth who have demonstrated leadership qualities. Sarah was awarded a scholarship to attend this 2015 leadership retreat, and this was her third time participating in the annual weekend. This year’s L.A.W. focused on a “train the trainer” type event for teen leaders.
The weekend’s event scheduled activities and seminars focused on district officer responsibilities, team building, district & county council club team building, communication and leadership skills, and instruction for 4-H ambassadors. Participants are prepared to repeat these trainings at a district, county, and club level. There were also lots of fun activities scheduled in concert with the 4-H educational component, such as, campfire s’mores, kayaking, and a paintball battle.
